Overview of the Scholarship
The Texas Tech University Freshman Presidential Scholarship is a merit-based award granted to first-time incoming freshmen who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Students who receive this scholarship will have their annual award split equally between the fall and spring semesters. Additionally, non-resident students who are awarded the Presidential Scholarship automatically qualify for in-state tuition rates, significantly reducing the overall cost of attendance.
Scholarship Benefits
Students who receive the Texas Tech University Freshman Presidential Scholarship are entitled to several benefits:
Financial Award Distribution: The total scholarship amount is awarded annually, with half of the funds allocated for the fall semester and the remaining half for the spring semester.
In-State Tuition for Non-Residents: Recipients who are non-Texas residents will pay the same tuition rates as Texas residents, helping to reduce their educational expenses significantly.

Eligibility Requirements

First-Time Freshmen Status:
The applicant must be an incoming first-year college student.
Students who have earned college credits through dual-credit courses, CLEP (College-Level Examination Program), or AP (Advanced Placement) exams are still eligible.
Academic Excellence:
The scholarship is awarded based on high test scores (ACT/SAT) and class ranking.

Texas Tech Enrollment Commitment:
Students must enroll full-time in an undergraduate program at Texas Tech University.
The scholarship is not transferable to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), Texas Tech Costa Rica, or Angelo State University.
If a student later applies to TTUHSC, they may have the opportunity to be considered for separate TTUHSC scholarships.
Scholarship Renewal and Maintenance Requirements
To continue receiving the Presidential Scholarship throughout their undergraduate studies, students must fulfill the following conditions:
Maintain a Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA):
The student must uphold a cumulative GPA as specified in the “Terms and Conditions” section of MyTech.
Failure to meet the GPA requirement may result in the loss of the scholarship.
Full-Time Enrollment and Credit Hour Completion:
Students must remain enrolled full-time in an academic program at Texas Tech University.
They must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours per academic year, including fall, spring, and summer terms.
Engagement with Scholarship Donors:
If requested, students must write a thank-you letter to the donor who contributed to their scholarship.
Scholarship recipients may be required to attend donor appreciation events, allowing them to connect with benefactors and express gratitude for their support.
Updating Contact Information:
Students must keep their email, phone number, and mailing address updated on MyTech to ensure they receive important notifications regarding their scholarship status.
Application Process
The Texas Tech University Freshman Presidential Scholarship does not require a separate application. Instead, students are automatically considered for the scholarship upon applying for admission to Texas Tech University.
Submit an Admission Application:
Students must apply for admission to Texas Tech University before the April 1, 2025 deadline.
Early applications increase the chances of receiving scholarship consideration.
Scholarship Selection:
The university reviews high school transcripts, standardized test scores (ACT/SAT), and other academic records to determine eligibility.
If a student qualifies for multiple Presidential Scholarships, only the highest-value scholarship will be awarded.
Scholarship Notification:
Selected recipients will be notified of their scholarship award and amount after being admitted to the university.
Important Considerations
The Presidential Scholarship applies only to Texas Tech University in Lubbock and does not extend to TTUHSC, Texas Tech Costa Rica, or Angelo State University.
Students who fail to meet the scholarship requirements may have their award revoked.
The scholarship cannot be combined with other Presidential Scholarships. If a student is eligible for multiple Presidential Scholarships, they will receive only the highest-value award.
