Applications for the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Grant-Indigenous PhD Scholarship 2025 at Flinders University are now open. This scholarship is part of the ARC Indigenous Discovery Project titled “The Great Exhibitions and their Lost Indigenous Objects.”

This research project is a collaboration between:

Australian Universities: Deakin University (lead institution), Flinders University, Australian National University, University of Tasmania, and University of Queensland.
Overseas Research Partners: Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (University of Cambridge) and Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac (Paris).

Benefits of the Scholarship
Successful applicants will receive:

Indigenous PhD stipend: $50,000 per annum (2024 rate, tax-free).
Duration: 4 years.
Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship: Covers tuition fees for Australian Citizens, New Zealand Citizens, and Permanent Residents.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:

Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by their community.
Be currently admitted or eligible for admission to a higher degree by research at Flinders University.
Be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or Permanent Resident.
Meet PhD admission requirements, including:
Hold an Australian Honours degree (Class 1 or 2A) or an equivalent qualification (AQF Level 8) with a research component of at least six months full-time study achieving Distinction (75%); OR
Provide evidence of equivalent research experience, such as:
A substantial first-author refereed publication, or
A track record as an investigator on a competitive research grant.
Be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University in Semester 1, 2025.
