Overview
The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme (AKF ISP) offers an opportunity for outstanding scholars from selected countries who have no other means of financing their studies to pursue postgraduate education. Established in 1969 by His Highness the Aga Khan, the program has supported over 1,000 students to date.

Aim and Benefits of the Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship
The scholarship is structured as a 50% grant and 50% loan, meaning recipients must repay half of the award amount.
For Master’s students, the scholarship covers the entire duration of the degree program.
For PhD students, funding is provided for the first two years, after which they must secure alternative financial support.
The award covers tuition fees and living expenses but does not include international travel, clothing, furniture, or support for family members.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the AKF ISP, applicants must:

Have excellent academic records.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional training/experience.
Demonstrate genuine financial need.
Present a realistic and multi-source funding plan that ensures financial coverage for all years of study.
Be admitted to a reputable postgraduate institution.
Be starting the first year of their postgraduate program.
Show strong leadership potential, professional experience, extracurricular or entrepreneurial achievements, and volunteer contributions.
Age Preference: Applicants under 30 years old are given priority.

Countries Eligible for Application
The AKF ISP is currently available to applicants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
In Canada, France, Portugal, and the USA, only applicants originally from one of the eligible countries may apply.
Students wishing to study in the United Kingdom are not eligible for this scholarship.
