Overview
The ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation, led by Flinders University, is a 5-year, $7.8 million research and training program involving 5 universities, 10 industry partners, and regulatory bodies. This initiative focuses on developing biofilm solutions for the maritime and water industries.
The Centre is offering PhD scholarships at Flinders University, Swinburne University, and the University of Tasmania over the five-year period. Scholarship recipients will engage in industry-focused research, contributing to biofouling management, biofilm monitoring, and defence-related water quality strategies.

Recipients of the ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation PhD Scholarship will receive:
$46,161 per annum (tax-free) for up to 3.5 years (full-time).

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this PhD Scholarship, applicants must:
Be a citizen of Australia, New Zealand, the USA, or the UK.
Provide a National Police Clearance obtained within the last 3 months.
Potentially attain and maintain an Australian Security clearance (NV1 level) under the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Meet Flinders University PhD admission requirements, which include:
An Australian Honours degree (Class 1 or 2A), a Master’s degree, or an equivalent qualification (AQF Level 8).
Evidence of equivalent research experience, such as refereed publications or experience as a lead researcher.
Commence studies within 3 months of scholarship acceptance (with possible extension to 6 months in exceptional cases).
Fulfill any additional eligibility criteria required by the industry partner/research project.
Desirable Qualifications
Applicants with the following background will be preferred:
Honours/Master’s degree in marine biology, environmental science, oceanography, or related fields.
Experience in water quality analysis, environmental sampling, or water sampling.
Interest in working with an industry partner in the defence sector.
Driver’s license.
