The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University supports talented leaders and changemakers from Sub-Saharan Africa who aspire to advance nutrition, public health, public policy, and sustainable agriculture in Africa.
About the Mastercard Foundation
Established in 2006, the Mastercard Foundation is an international NGO based in Toronto, Canada. Since 2018, the foundation has focused on Africa through its Young Africa Works strategy, aiming to:
Reduce gender and economic inequality
Expand access to quality education
Create opportunities for decent work
Support economic growth

This is a fully funded master’s scholarship covering:
Tuition and fees
Living expenses
Visa and associated costs
Leadership development opportunities
Support during immigration processes
Eligible Courses
The scholarship is available for the following programs:
Animal Science
Biostatistics
Biotechnology
Food Science
Human Nutrition
Public Health
Public Policy
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
Be admissible to one of the eligible master’s programs at McGill University
Have never registered for or completed a master’s degree
Be a citizen of and reside in a Sub-Saharan African country (see list of eligible countries)
Hold a valid passport and be admissible to Canada as an international student (Those with dual citizenship, asylum status, or permanent residency in the US, Canada, UK, or EU are not eligible)
Have an exceptional record of leadership, service, and community involvement
Demonstrate a commitment to giving back to their home country
Be under 35 years old at the time of application
Hold a First Class Honors degree or equivalent (strongly preferred)
Application Process
To qualify, all applicants must:
Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent as recognized by McGill University) in a related field
Meet the graduate admission requirements for McGill University
Check individual program pages for any additional admission requirements
